Dr. Giermann is a partner in our firm and specializes in the areas of corporate and business, M&A and restructuring, transportation and logistics, and international business.

 

Dr. Giermann advises his clients, inter alia, on the formation of companies, ongoing advice in the context of corporate housekeeping and disputes among shareholders. In M&A transactions, Dr. Giermann has many years of experience in national and international transactions. He benefits from his experience in shareholder and supervisory bodies.

 

In logistics law, he supports his clients in particular in the areas of contract logistics, data warehousing and supply chain management.

 

Until joining KUNZ 2021, Dr. Giermann worked as an associate and partner in commercial law firms in Hamburg from 2002 to 2006, and as a partner in the Duesseldorf office of FPS from 2006 to 2021.

 

Among other things, Dr. Giermann is the author of three legal commentaries on the German Commercial Code and has written a number of academic articles and books in German and English.

 

In logistics law, Dr. Giermann has been a guest lecturer at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences since 2015 and was from 2007 until 2015 lecturer with the BME Bundesverband Materialwirtschaft, Einkauf und Logistik (German Association of Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics). In addition, Dr. Giermann was a guest lecturer and held work-shops for start-ups with the Center for Entrepreneurship of the University of Duesseldorf from 2014 until 2018.

 

From 2011 to 2019, Dr. Giermann was a member of the supervisory board of a listed stock corporation.

 

He is involved in various non-profit organizations, including since 2013 as a member of the Federal Executive Committee of the German-Israeli Business Association.

 

Dr. Giermann is a deputy member of the preliminary examination committee for the specialist attorney for transport and forwarding law at the Düsseldorf Bar Association.

 

Dr. Giermann studied law in Germany (Bonn, Cologne, Hamburg), Australia (Monash University), Canada (McGill University) and completed internships and legal traineeships in the United States and France, among others.

 

Before studying law, Dr. Giermann trained as a naval officer. He is a graduate of the Mürwik Naval School and is currently an Admiral Staff Officer with the Inspector of the Navy as a Corvette Captain in the Reserve.

 

Dr. Giermann is frequently recommended in the JUVE Handbook in the area of corporate law / M&A ("very experienced u. factual", competitor).

Since 2020, Dr. Heiko Giermann is listed in The Best Lawyers™ (Handelsblatt / Best Lawyers®) in Germany in the area of Corporate Law.

  • Advising and representing a US/UK PE investor in the acquisition of a major German daily newspaper
  • Advising and representing a U.S. PE investor in the acquisition of a company of a major German publishing house, including post-merger process
  • Advising and representing a US PE investor in the acquisition of a company of a German listed group in the specialty chemicals sector, including post-merger process
  • Advice and representation in the conclusion of logistics contracts on the part of the principals (producers, distributors) and contractors (logistics companies), including coupling with the construction of logistics real estate
