Dr. Heiko A. Giermann, LL.M. (McGill)

Dr. Giermann is a partner in our firm and specializes in logistics, general commercial and corporate law/M&A with a focus on clients in national and international trade and logistics. He is a specialist lawyer for transport and forwarding law.

In the field of logistics law, Dr. Giermann supports his clients in particular in the areas of contract logistics, data warehousing and supply chain management. In the area of Corporate/M&A, Dr. Giermann advises on issues such as the drafting of articles of association for partnerships and corporations, the formation of companies, the structuring of shareholder relationships, disputes between shareholders and transactions.

Dr. Giermann advises and represents his clients both in and out of court.

Until joining KUNZ 2021, Dr. Giermann worked as a partner in commercial law firms in Hamburg from 2002 to 2006 and as a partner in the Düsseldorf office of a supra-local commercial law firm from 2006 to 2021.

Since 2015, Dr. Giermann has been a lecturer at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences and was a lecturer with the BME Federal Association of Materials Management, Purchasing and Logistics from 2007 to 2015. He also lectured as a guest lecturer from 2014-18 and organized work-shops on the topic of start-ups in cooperation with the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Düsseldorf.

From 2011 to 2019, he was a member of the supervisory board of a publicly traded corporation. He is involved in various non-profit organizations, including since 2013 as a member of the Federal Board of the German-Israeli Economic Association e.V. Dr. Giermann is a deputy member of the preliminary examination committee for specialist lawyers for transport and forwarding law at the Düsseldorf Bar Association.

He studied law in Bonn, Cologne and Hamburg as well as Melbourne (Monash University) and Montréal (McGill University). He is a graduate of the Naval Academy in Flensburg-Mürwik and is currently an Admiral Staff Officer to the Chief of Naval Staff as a Commander (Res.).

Dr. Giermann is frequently recommended in the JUVE Handbook in the area of corporate law / M&A ("very experienced and factual", competitor). Since 2020, Dr. Heiko Giermann is listed in The Best Lawyers™ (Handelsblatt / Best Lawyers®) in Germany in the area of Corporate Law.
