Prof. Dr. Karl Keilen

Prof. Dr. Keilen supports our competence area "Environment, Climate & Energy" with his many years of practical experience in the field of energy and environmental law and his practical know-how as a renowned energy expert.
As senior Assistant Secretary in the State Environmental Ministry Rhineland Palatia or many years, Prof. Keilen was deputy head of the Department of Energy and Radiation Protection in the Ministry of the Environment of Rhineland-Palatinate, later in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and until 2019 mayor of the municipality of Bornheim.
He specializes in supporting politics, companies, associations and municipalities in legislation, regulation and projects with analyses and concepts in order to successfully implement climate and immission protection as well as a renewable, economically competitive energy supply. His profession as a natural and industrial scientist, as a university lecturer, his former activity in the technical consulting service of the Steinbeis Foundation for Economic Development Baden-Württemberg as well as his extensive experience in various municipal political functions are the basis for this. At the Rhineland-Palatinate / Saarland Renewable Energy Association, he is a member of the board and spokesman for the mobility working group.
Prof. Keilen was a member of the German delegation (United Nations Forum on Forests UNFF) as representative of the German states in the multi-year negotiations on international forest protection within the Intergovernmental Panel on Forests (IPF) and the Intergovernmental Forum on Forests (IFF) established by the UN. He has also participated in several world climate conferences.
As head of the energy and climate protection unit, his work focused on fundamental issues of energy policy, in particular energy legislation (including energy industry law, the Renewable Energies Act, etc.), cooperation with associations and companies, especially in the energy industry, with municipalities and their associations, and support for numerous energy and climate protection projects in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The current focus of his work is the analysis of energy and climate protection legislation, consulting on the decarbonization of companies, the development of emission-free mobility and projects to expand renewable energies.
